EDIT: Convekta looks ugly and primitive, but it was the early adopter of chess training using computers that was developed by Russian masters. The instructional value of this product line still holds its weight in gold though.

I remember I got excited when I found out that it contained a database with thousands of master games, maybe 300K total, which at the time I thought was a lot. I even told the teacher at the chess club 'I have this program with three hundred thousand games!' and he said 'we have a program in the office with over a million. It's Chessbase.'

I would love to be able to afford CB. I've been using SCID though, and I have to say that little FREE chess database rocks once you learn how to use it. You can download Mil-base for free also (1.74 million master games) and update it weekly with current/recent master games from TWIC (also free!).

I wasn't always high on chessbase but am now a convert. There are SO many tools for study. Real study. (which I think SCID has as well but I have had really bad luck with a free chess software for some reason)
